Brief 3 Digital Brushes

Using the digital brushes I have produced, I created a bird. My ink markings worked particularly well as the splat shapes made resembled the body of a bird. I changed the branch to leaves which the bird sits on in order to fit my colour scheme. The natural tone of the leaves work better with the colours of the bird. I like the handmade quality of my brushes and the print effect they produce. I would develop this further by working on creating brushes that present more texture.

Brief 2 Opposites

My final outcome for this brief focuses on the opposite that is the living and the dead. I particularly like the layering of the effects in this piece. The skull looks as if it has been burnt into the paper and it also has a transparent effect. In order to develop this piece I would consider designing a background for my collage.

Bolin Zhang

 Danai Gkoni

I really like the effect of digital collage and decided to conduct further research into artists who specialise in this area.  I came across the works of Bolin Zhang and Danai Gkoni which are visually very interesting. Zhang combines historical photographs with modern elements in her pieces mixing the past with the present. Gkoni is inspired by her environment such as the surrounding architecture and textures, this is evident in her work. When working on collage in the future I would consider taking my own photographs and collecting a collection of textures.

Brief 1 Dreams & Nightmares

My final piece focuses on a nightmare I had as a child. By layering medical drawings and photographs of fossils I aimed to show the dinosaurs peering through the trees. I am pleased with the outcome of this brief, but feel this could be developed further. In order to do this I would experiment more with the appearance of the reptiles eyes. As the eyes were one of the stand out, scarier pieces of imagery in my nightmare I think they could be made a bolder colour.
